The idea of Festival of Faiths originated from a youth program of the John Humphrey Centre for Peace and Human Rights, the Peacebuilders Program. The participants of the program were challenged to apply their learning experiences into a project for the community. The desire of having a "festival type event for different faiths and beliefs" was suggested. With the support of various agencies and the youth from the program, the first Festival of Faiths was held in September 19, 2015 at City Hall. The first event was a great success with 18 faith groups, several performances and panels, and an overall informative and enjoyable event.
The goal moving forward is to identify and invite more groups representing various faiths and beliefs, ranging from those that are considered major religions, to others that are not commonly known. A safe, festive, and inclusive space for all these groups to represent their beliefs, learn about others, and showcase to the general public is a great stepping stone to compassion, collaboration, engagement, and common ground. We are excited to grow this event further and have it as an annual event included in the activities included of the City of Festivals.

How to get involved
- Faith Groups: If you are a part of a faith group and would like to participate as an exhibitor, we would be thrilled to have you. We also need facilitators for our workshops as well as participants who would like to share their thoughts in our various panels.
- Volunteers: We are always in need of volunteers to help with the logistics of the event days as well as the planning and promotion process.
- Performances: Are you a local artist in Edmonton or nearby areas? We would love to have you for our intermission performances. We also welcome suggestions or copies of media that aligns with the event's theme and spirit such as films, music and many more.
